My American History Teachers Rant ?

My American History Teacher in college is African American and he thinks Barack Obama is the overrated. I will paraphrase his 15 min speech. He said that to say we made history when he was elected is undeniable. But to say that it was impossible is ignorant. He said that for us as Americans to be so amazed and proud of ourselves that we elected a Black Man as president is dumb. To be an American citizen and to not feel or expect that any person of any race of any gender of any creed can succeed in life isnt truly filled with the American spirit. And I remind you he is a college history teacher. He said that to those who cried or those who felt validated or for those who were ';proud'; again to be Americans were never true Americans, they were people living in America. He also said although he is African American and he did vote for Obama, he did not cry or even cared too much. He compared those who cried when Obama was elected to that of a person crying when they turn on a faucet and water comes out or crying when a light turns on after you flip a switch. Why are you so surprised ? That is how it is like with Obama being elected. Nothing special. I quote ';Just like any other Presidential Inauguration.';

Now being a Obama supporter and I admit I did get a little teary eyed when he won. But I totally understand where he is coming from. Do you agree or disagree with his sentiments ?My American History Teachers Rant ?
No, report him/her to the Principal and to your parents. He/she should keep their bias political or religious views and personal opinions to themselves not publicly soap box them to students.

Any teachers personal or bias political or religious views should never be discussed, used or mentioned as a tool, when they are teaching students.

Any teacher that does this, can loose their job and would never be able to teach students as a career.

Sorry but it's illegal and against the law.My American History Teachers Rant ?
I agree with your history teacher completely.

To say that Americans are special to vote in a black president is ridiculous. By segregating and labeling Obama as black you are strengthening the fact that there is still racism in the world. Thats segregation. Black is in fashion.

It should be just like any other presidential inauguration because being black should have nothing to do with whether or not you will make a good leader.

It is dumb to be proud of the so called achievement of electing a black president because it SHOULD be Obama's skills that got him elected not his appearance or colour.

The world is appeasing black people.
You are in college. He is your instructor. He was making you think. That's his job. Thank whatever god that you pray to that you have a teacher who wants you to think for yourself. If you made it to college, you have been taught a lot of dogma! Not always wrong, but not even right!
i agree with him, its a total load of crap. he spent 120 million dollars on an inaugeration when we our health and education system need help. bush only spent 40 million. what if obama put that extra 80 million towards funding for schools?
I completely agree with him. It was historic but that's it. No different than the first brown haired or first blue eyed president.

Oh well, to each his own, right?
BOOO HOOO FREAKIN' WHOOOOOOO!
I completely agree with your teacher
He is right. He is just another guy in for another four years.
Sure, to some the race issue will be overplayed. HOWEVER, consider the families of the blacks in this country who were chased around with electric cattle prodders -- by the police-- for protesting their disenfranchisement. How long ago was this? Hmm. FORTY years ago. That's it.

Remember that these people this professor is referring to might be overreacting. But, he has no idea what the person has gone through in their life with regard to race relations. Empathy before judgment.
I think it gives the USA way too much credit to assume that its ideals have ever matched up with action. This was a country founded by the enlightenment, guaranteeing freedom for all men, with an economy founded in the institution of slavery (it took 100 years extra to break that).

The whole line about 'anyone can be President' may have always been the slogan, but the fact remains that the first FORTY THREE were old white guys, or that even now, Nintey-Some percent of the Senate are old white guys.

I can understand why people get emotional with Obama's win. Your professor is taking the place country is now for granted, and ignoring all the struggle that it took to get here.
Don't take it the wrong way, but that's exactly how it should be. It does take on a special aura given the history of the obstacles African-Americans have overcome in this country, but your teacher's onto something. After all, Dr. King spoke of a dream in which all men would be judged on the content of their character, not by the color of their skin. In a perfect world, we wouldn't be celebrating it because he's black, we'd be celebrating it because it is a peaceful transfer of power from one group to the next.
I understand what he is talking about, however he should be understanding that not everyone is a rock like himself, %26amp; can always keep their emotions inside when you are happy/excited. I was happy when Obama won, however, I didn't cry. But before he won I did have a ominous feeling that majority of the American people were set in their ways or some may have been even raciest. So there was that thought in the back of my mind saying: ';There's no way majority of the USA will vote for him.'; However, I was proven wrong... by a lot! Which made it even more exciting.

The thing to remember for yourself though is do not let anyone else ruin this historic moment for you. Enjoy yourself, %26amp; have fun!
i completely agree. first of all let me say that i am African America.

when i saw the inauguration i was happy but i was kind of upset that all those people that vote for him just because he was black and not on his policies. trust me, we have a big problem in America. since this is the country of immigrants, no one takes pride in America, which is sad. everyone has it's own culture and country that they put forward while discarding america. for example, us blacks don't give a flip bout america but our Heritage Africa, the hispanic would prefer mexico over america, and so on. it is sham-full that when you tell them, if you don't like it here go back to your country, they'll tell you that it's easy to get a job here, there is more freedom here, you can live your dream here, and you can get a good education here. yet, they still don't show any respect to the country that provides them with all of this opportunities.
